Therme Group’s strategic partner Wund Holding, operating as ThermenGruppe Josef Wund, has unveiled plans for the creation of Germany’s largest wellbeing resort in Bad Vilbel, Frankfurt.

It’s the latest location to be announced as part of Therme Group’s global development programme, following planning approval for Therme Manchester in 2020.

Located on the banks of the Nidda river, the project builds on Therme Group and Wund Holding’s shared vision of creating the world’s most-advanced wellbeing resorts which address the vital modern-day need for accessible wellbeing for all.

The project name is yet to be released and construction is set to begin within a year, with an opening scheduled for 2023.

Combining hundreds of water-based activities with wellbeing treatments, art, nature and technology, the resorts are designed to offer a unique experience suitable for all ages.

As much as creating a fun and enjoyable holiday at home, the focus is on benefiting the physical and mental health of all who visit.

Resorts include expansive thermal and mineral pools, relaxation areas, delicious healthy food options, saunas and individual therapy rooms for personalised treatments.

The new Frankfurt facility will be home to a biodiverse ecosystem that includes more than 1,800 palm trees and thousands of other plants delivered with the support of Therme NAT, Therme Group’s specialist botanics company.

Therme NAT has also begun a greening project in Bad Vilbel by introducing a variety of species including many trees as well as bee and butterfly friendly perennials and shrubs to improve its urban biodiversity.

In addition, immersive art and culture will be integrated into the project via Therme’s creative branch Therme Art, which is working to create new forms of sensorial spaces as part of a truly holistic wellbeing experience.

Continuing Therme Group’s commitment to sustainability, and alongside Therme Bucharest and Therme Manchester, the project is being planned, built and operated to LEED Platinum Standard.

Robert Hanea, Therme Group CEO and chair, said: “In a place long known for its healing waters, this wellbeing resort will help to revive a thermal bathing culture stretching back to the Romans’ arrival in the area almost 2,000 years ago.

“Along with Therme Manchester and other worldwide projects, it will elevate our concept to a new level, furthering our aim to redefine wellbeing for communities worldwide.”
