First Buddha-Bar Beach opens its doors in Mauritius

by Andrew Manns | 09 Jan 2019

The latest venue from the Buddha-Bar 'eatertainment' brand has launched at Sugar Beach resort in Mauritius.

The new bohemian-inspired bar and restaurant, which was designed by Dubai-based architecture studio Bishop Design, features two dining areas, as well as an outdoor terrace and lounge.

Adjoining the 258-room Sugar Beach hotel on the shore of Flic-en-Flac bay, the Buddha-Bar also draws visual inspiration from 1980s seaside hangouts in Ibiza and Goa.

The site is Sugar Beach's third addition to its on-site restaurant offerings, which include Citronella's Cafe and Mon Plaisir.

In a statement, Sugar Beach's operator Sun Resorts said the bar's menu is "heavily influenced by Pacific Rim destinations", featuring a fusion of Asian and Mediterranean dishes and drinks meant to "appeal to all five of the senses".

The Buddha-Bar franchise, which boasts a global portfolio of boutique lounges, nightclubs, hotels, and dining outlets in places like the Maldives, Paris, Monte-Carlo, London, Dubai, Budapest and Prague, was founded in 1996 by businessman Raymond Visan.

Buddha-Bar Beach marks the company's first foray into the Mauritian hospitality market.
