Design firm chosen for Lake District project

A team from Planit-IE, the Cheshire-based landscape architecture group, has been appointed to design the next stage of a major redevelopment of the Lake District Visitor Centre.
The visitor centre - Brockhole - is located on the shores of Lake Windermere and Planit-IE has already worked on creative ideas for land-side works around a jetty opened last year.
Among the ideas already raised include a new adventure play area; treetop walks; restoration of the gardens; space for concerts; facilities for outdoor learning; and watersports provision.
Brockhole programme director Adam Thomas said: "As the first stage of changes concludes, our thoughts are with what happens next to create an inspiring centre that encourages visitors and local people to explore and celebrate the Lake District."
