Work to start on Keynsham sports centre

Bath and North East Somerset Council (BANES) has announced that construction work is to get underway on a new £2.3m sports centre at Wellsway Senior School in Keynsham.

Cowlin Construction has been chosen to build the Boyes Rees Architects-designed 1,878sq m (20,215sq ft) facility, which will include a 73sq m (786sq ft) fitness suite.

A six-court sports hall and an activity studio are also proposed as part of the centre, which is to be available for use by members of the local community outside of school hours.

BANES deputy leader Nathan Hartley said: "This enhancement project will deliver not only excellent new facilities for the school but also for the wider community to benefit."

Construction work is scheduled for completion by September 2012.
