High Wycombe set for new leisure centre
A new leisure centre is to be created in High Wycombe as part of the local authority's plans for the redevelopment of the Buckinghamshire town's existing sports centre site.
Wycombe District Council (WDC) has made its proposals available as part of an exhibition, which will run between 31 October and 13 November at Wycombe Sports Centre.
The exhibition will relocate to the council's offices on Queen Victoria Road between 14 and 18 November, with members of the project team available at certain times to answer queries.
In addition to a new leisure centre, WDC is planning to relocate a synthetic turf pitch at John Hampden School and an athletics track to Buckmaster playing fields.
A hotel; a food hall; office accommodation; a doctor's surgery; and a crèche will also be part of the proposed development. Richard Markland Architects have drawn up indicative images for the scheme.
WDC cabinet member for property services and economic development Arif Hussain said: "The aim of proposal is to build a new, first class leisure centre by 2015, as part of a wider, comprehensive redevelopment of the sports centre site.
"The proposed running track relocation to Buckmaster playing fields provides an opportunity to upgrade them by bringing part of the former BMX track back in to use, alongside a new mixed use games area and skateboard facility."
