Work starts on new Hotel Vermont building
Work has now got underway on the new 125-room Hotel Vermont in Burlington, US, which is expected to achieve LEED certification from the US Green Building Council.
The start of the building phase was marked with a groundbreaking event, which was attended by state governor Peter Shumlin and commerce secretary Lawrence Miller.
Burlington-based PC Construction has been appointed to deliver the property, which is being developed by Jay Canning and Chuck DesLauriers and is due to open in April 2013.
The opening of Hotel Vermont on 41 Cherry Street is scheduled to take place 100 years after an original hotel with that name first opened on the corner of Main Street and St Paul Street.
Israel Smith of Smith Buckley Architects has worked alongside Kim Deetjen of TruexCullins Interiors on design features at the hotel, which will include the Hen of the Wood Restaurant.
A 7,500sq ft (697sq m) Harbor Terrace providing Burlington with its first green roof/garden; an outdoor terrace overlooking the waterfront; and two function rooms are also planned.
