Rugby leisure centre plans submitted
Rugby Borough Council (RBC) has revealed that work could start "within months" on a new leisure centre in the Warwickshire town after plans were submitted for consideration.
The B3 Architects-designed facility will cater for a range of sports and leisure uses and is to replace the current Ken Marriott Leisure Centre, which is around 40 years old. Located on the car park of the existing venue, the new leisure centre will include a new gym - twice the size of the current fitness facility; a climbing wall; and a four-court sports hall.
A 25m, eight-lane swimming pool suitable for regional events and a 17m x 8m studio pool with moveable floor is also proposed, along with spaces for dance classes and a café. RBC portfolio holder for economy, development and culture Heather Timms said: "One of the key features of the new centre is the flexibility of the space.
"A truly innovative feature will be the new studio pool with moveable floor, which can be set at just 0.9m deep for children's swimming lessons, and 2.5m deep for synchronised swimming." Press and Starkey; Furness Partnership; and Building Services Partnership have also helped draw up plans, with work expected to start in February ahead of a July 2013 completion date.
