GBC unveils US$900m Baltimore proposals
Details of a major US$900m (£557.4m) scheme planned for Baltimore's Inner Harbor, US, have been announced by leaders of the Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC).
A US$325m (£201.3m), 18,500-seat arena; a US$175m (£108.4m), 500-room hotel; and a US$400m (£247.9m) expansion of the existing Baltimore Convention Center are mooted. Under the GBC proposals for Inner Harbor would see the hotel built on the top of the arena, with the arena's concourse connecting with a new wing of the convention centre.
Meanwhile, the GBC has also revealed plans to revitalise the 7-acre (2.8-hectare) Rash Field into a new waterfront park, with three conceptual designs drawn up by Ayers/Saint/Gross. A survey of local residents has found that the majority would back the third option for Rash Field - Harbor Loop - that would feature a pedestrian bridge across the harbour.
GBC president and CEO Donald C Fry said: "It's time to take the Inner Harbor to the next level for future generations, and we have an opportunity to combine three much-needed improvements to do just that." Image: Ayers/Saint/Gross
