GORD and QOC announce new agreement

A new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been agreed by the Gulf Organisation for Research Development (GORD) and the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC).
The document will see both organisations work together on the creation of environmentally-sustainable sports venues using Qatar Sustainability Assessment System standards. It is anticipated that the MoU will help reduce energy use and carbon dioxide emissions in the construction of new sporting facilities across the Middle Eastern country.
QOC general secretary Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said: "This agreement will allow for the assessment and evaluation of sustainability of pre-existing sporting venues, as well as setting a foundation for all future facilities to be built in Qatar. "Our partnership with the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development is testament to our firm commitment to improve Qatar's sporting environment, while not sacrificing our natural environment."
GORD co-founder and chair Dr. Youssef Al-Horr added: "With Qatar already investing heavily in athletics and sports, it was only natural that future venues would be built under stringent sustainability standards."
