Wind turbines to power new UNT stadium

A new American Football stadium being developed at the University of North Texas (UNT), US, is to be powered by three wind turbines with the help of a US$2m (£1.2m) grant.
The funding has been made available by the State Energy Conservation Office, with the new turbines to supply the electrical grid powering the stadium and associated buildings. UNT is planning to open its new 28,000-seat venue in September, which will feature luxury suites; an "amenity-filled" club level; and a Spirit Store and will also host concerts.
It will replace the ageing Fouts Field and has been designed HKS Sports and Entertainment Group - the firm behind the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium. HKS DesignGreen has been selected to design the turbines and supporting structure, which will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 323 metric tons each year.
UNT president V Lane Rawlins said: "Our university has a 50-year legacy of environmental research and sustainability and we're proud to be the first university in Texas to install wind turbines on campus."
