Major facilities plan for Arkansas university
The University of Arkansas, US, has revealed a major new long-term sports facilities vision in a bid to enhance its offer and to maintain the competitiveness of the Razerback Athletics.
A number of projects have been put forward as part of the Athletic Facilities Master Plan to cover sports such as American Football, basketball, baseball and swimming.
It is estimated that the total vision will cost up to US$328m (£207m, EUR238m), following on from average annual investment of US$18m (£11m, EUR13m) over the past 11 years.
A design team comprising Populous, Modus Studios and University Facilities Management have drawn up the proposals, after the programme was commissioned in February 2010.
Jeff Long, vice chancellor and director of athletics, said: "The plan is an ambitious wish list to address facility needs for all 19 of our sports over the next five, 15 and 30 years.
"It is the next step to build our program and maintain competitiveness in the Southeastern Conference and nationally."
Although the university has set no timetable for the implementation of the full programme, work is scheduled to begin on a new Football Center on 4 November.
