Public exhibition for Bradford proposals
Revised plans for the £55m New Victoria Place scheme in Bradford, West Yorkshire, are set to be submitted to the local authority by developer Langtree Artisan and regional development agency, Yorkshire Forward.
A public exhibition is scheduled to be held on 24 and 25 July in order for local residents to comment on the proposals, which will be located on the site of a former Odeon cinema and is set to include a new public realm, a 100-bed hotel and community leisure facilities. Bars, cafés and office space are also incorporated in the amended plans, which are due to be submitted to Bradford Council on 27 July as a revision to an existing planning application drawn up by Langtree Artisan and Yorkshire Forward late last year.
Simon Peters of Langtree Artisan said: "We have created a vibrant and ambitious scheme for current and future generations of Bradfordians, which will deliver much-needed jobs to the city. "All the buildings will be complemented by imaginative landscaping that directly threads a link between City Park and New Victoria Place, creating a sustainable urban community and a new destination to complement Alhambra and the City Park."
The scheme has been designed by architects careyjones, while English Heritage and Bradford Centre Regeneration have been involved with the development of the revised proposals, as well as feedback from previous public consultations. Trevor Mitchell, planning and development regional director for Yorkshire and the Humber at English Heritage, said: "The revised proposal respects the setting of adjacent listed buildings and provides new buildings of an appropriate quality in a sympathetic, landscaped setting, safeguarding the overall character of the city centre conservation area."
