First draft of Chard masterplan revealed
Members of Chard Community Forum have been given the opportunity to view the first draft of South Somerset District Council's (SSDC) masterplan for the transformation of the Somerset town.
Improvements to leisure and sports facilities are included in the draft masterplan, which has been developed by LDA Design over the past four months following consultation with local residents and stakeholders. The creation of an easily accessible, public town centre space also forms part of the regeneration plans, as well as making better use of existing green space and the redevelopment of the ACI Boden Mill site.
Somerset County Council, the South West of England Regional Development Agency and Chard Town Council have contributed towards the masterplan, which also outlines a timetable for phasing in improvements to Chard town centre.
,P> SSDC's head of area development west, Andrew Gillespie, said: "This will be the main plan for the town, so it's a hugely important document. It covers how the town centre should be regenerated, how the key site should be developed, and what priorities development should focus on." Frazer Osment, lead partner at LDA Design, said: "hard has huge potential. We hope that the plans we have prepared show how concrete steps can be taken to regenerate the town centre and provide the new homes and jobs the town needs to grow."Aman sister brand Janu debuts in Tokyo with four-floor urban wellness retreat
