The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has confirmed that the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, south east London, will remain as the host venue for shooting events at the 2012 Olympics.

Both the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and the National Shooting Centre at Bisley, Surrey, had put themselves forward as alternative venues for the events, but the ODA has now decided that it will pursue a planning application for the Woolwich site. Feasibility work will continue to investigate an area of brownfield land in Barking as a reserve venue, but Bisley has been totally discounted due to cost, operational and time issues associated with the proposals.

Sebastian Coe, chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee, said: "The ODA has conducted a thorough review process of all three locations. However, the board still feels that Woolwich is the best choice of venue." Rob Whiteman, chief executive of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, added: "We are disappointed that our bid was not successful, as we feel we provided the most cost-effective proposal."
