Blackpool promenade to open early
Blackpool Council (BC) has announced that it will bring forward the opening of a new seafront promenade in a bid to capitalise on the expected increase in domestic tourism.
Most of the construction work, which is being carried out by Birse Coastal, is now expected to be completed in time for the summer season. The remaining work will be carried out later this year. Maxine Callow, BC's cabinet member for tourism and regeneration, said: "More visitors coming to the resort would be excellent news and the council therefore felt it was important for these extra tourists to see Blackpool in the very best possible light.
"Although diggers and cranes are an essential part of the town's regeneration, by removing construction work from this area, we will be allowing people to enjoy the new seafront and get a glimpse of the new Blackpool."
